Laser Therapy in Veterinary Practice

The scientific documentation of laser therapy in the field of veterinary medicine is extensive – Tuner & Hode (2002) identified over 1000 animal studies. Animals and horses in particular are more sensitive than humans to light and are also not prone to placebo effects, so the many positive scientific studies published attest to the effectiveness of laser therapy across a wide range of conditions.

Although effective for all animals and positive studies on, for example, mastitis in cows, show how broad the usage can be, laser therapy is currently best utilised in the equine field and in small animal practices. The benefits of faster recovery, and so shorter lay-off times, delivered by laser therapy are particularly attractive to owners and trainers of horses in competition, whether racing or eventing.
